On the state of the bench
An instrument marked awaiting calibration is racked, powered, and not yet coupled to anything. The Survey would rather show you a blanking plate than a panel producing numbers it has not earned.
They come online in order of how much of the world they can measure. The detector first, because it is the only one that reads a genuine physical disturbance in the room around you; then the camera and the audio instruments; then the protocols, which need no sensors at all and are, awkwardly for everything else here, the ones with the most science behind them.
