Getting hold of us
Write to hello@ghostdetectorlab.com. It is read by one person, usually within a week, and often faster than that.
There is no contact form on this page on purpose. A form means a server, and the privacy notice says that nothing you type or record on this site is transmitted anywhere. A mail client is your own software talking to your own mail provider, and it keeps that sentence true.
Things worth writing about
- A correction. If something in the field notes or on the methodology page is wrong, we want to know and we will say on the page that it was changed and why. The Survey’s documents carry their amendment dates for this reason.
- An instrument that will not start. Tell us the phone, the browser, and which switch you were pressing. Sensor access varies enormously between handsets and the useful bug reports are always the specific ones.
- Permissions and reuse. Quoting with a link is always fine and needs no permission. Anything more than that, ask.
- A place named in a case file. The case files are fiction and their locations are invented. If a name has landed close to a real address by accident, write and we will change it.
Things we cannot help with
We do not investigate properties, we do not visit sites, and we cannot tell you whether your house is haunted. If something at home is frightening you, the honest place to start is what a haunted house usually turns out to be, which leads on carbon monoxide, because it is the one thing on that list that has ever killed anybody.
If you are in immediate danger, or you suspect a gas or carbon monoxide leak, leave the building and call the emergency services in your country. Do not use this site to make that decision.
Who this is
Ghost Detector Lab is an independent site written and built by one person. The Thinplace Survey — the programme, the station, the operators and the archive — is invented, and is described as invented on the disclaimer and the about page. The instruments and the measurements are real, and the methodology page explains each of them in full.
